Touch Judging
There are two courses available for Touch Judges:
Level 1 Touch Judge 
The Level 1 course prepares participants to run touch for junior rugby teams, and recreational senior teams.
The content of this course is very detailed in educating participants on touch line laws, detecting and acting on foul play, positioning and referee support (team of three).
The law elements and practical problem solving are covered in an open book exam, which MUST be completed and passed prior to you being issued with an Officials Card and Accreditation Certificate. There is no point in attending the course if you are not willing to complete the exam.
Does the course incorporate SmartRugby?
No.
Who is the course aimed at?
The Level 1 course is aimed at junior referees, and club-based volunteers looking to support their teams or satisfy competition rules that require clubs to have a certain number of accredited TJs.
What are the prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites.
What is the minimum age?
12 years old.
What resources will be provided?
All participants will receive:
- a Participant Workbook
- a Law Book Extract booklet
- a “Line Ball Your Call” booklet
- a Ball In Touch Flowchat handout
How long is the course?
Approx. 3.5 hours.
What should I bring?
The course is conducted indoors, so please bring paper and a pen. No meal will be provided, so eat something beforehand!

Level 2 Touch Judge 
The Level 2 course provides participant with the knowledge to touch judge matches up to the senior premiership level. The Level 2 course fully incorporates the Level 1 course.
The content of this both courses is very detailed in educating participants on touch line laws, detecting and acting on foul play, positioning and referee support (team of three).
The law elements and practical problem solving are covered in an open book exam, which MUST be completed and passed prior to you being issued with an Officials Card and Accreditation Certificate. There is no point in attending the course if you are not willing to complete the exam.

The Level 2 course is aimed at developing referees, as Level 2 Touch Judge accreditation is a prerequisite for Level 2 Referee accreditation. Premiership club-based volunteers may also find this course useful as opposed to the Level 1 course.

There are no prerequisites.
The Level 2 course fully incorporates the Level 1 course, so you do NOT need to have done Level 1 in order to attend the Level 2 course. Doing so will involve repetition of half the course content.

15 years old.
