Injury and a lack of opportunity prevented Ben Mowen from adding to his solitary Super Rugby cap in 2008 however the backrower finished the season strongly and is primed to make an impact in 2009.

A former Australian U21 skipper, Mowen was a key player in Randwick’s run to the 2008 Grand Final and was rewarded for his natural leadership qualities later in the year by being named captain in both of the Junior Waratahs matches on the Development Tour of Fiji.

Born in Brisbane on 1 December 1984, Mowen was educated at Villanova College, from where he achieved Australian Schools selection in 2002. He’s not the only sporting member of his family, with younger sisters Justine and Jordan representing Queensland and Australia at Volleyball.
