One of Australian Rugby’s true superstars, Lote Tuqiri had a stellar 2008 season in which he overtook Matt Burke as the Waratahs’ highest tryscorer in Super Rugby history and was voted by his peers as the team’s Best Back.
Having played all 15 matches last year, Tuqiri also passed Scott Staniforth to become the Waratahs most capped winger of all time, and with 138 points moved into the state’s top five pointscorers in Super Rugby.
Born in Suva, Fiji on 23 September 1979, Tuqiri forged his sporting reputation playing 99 NRL matches for the Brisbane Broncos between 1999 and 2002. During that time he represented Queensland and Australia as well as captaining Fiji at the 2000 Rugby League World Cup. He capped his time in rugby league by taking out the Dally M Winger of the Year in 2002.
