After four frustrating seasons with the Brumbies in which he played just two Super Rugby matches, Luke Burgess returned to his home state in 2008 for the biggest year of his career.
The talented scrumhalf began the 2008 season on the bench for the Waratahs, started his first Super 14 match mid-season and never looked back, going on to make his Test debut. A knee injury stopped Burgess from completing the Tri Nations, however he returned for the Wallabies Spring Tour.
Born on 20 August 1983 and hailing from Maitland, Burgess is a product of St. Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill. He began his club career with a Colts premiership with Sydney University in 2003, a performance that saw him lured to Canberra prior to the start of the following season. He represented Australia at U21 level that same year.
