After struggling with injury throughout his provincial career, Tom Carter finally made his Super Rugby debut in the opening round of the 2008 season
Going on to start all 15 matches at inside centre, Carter’s robust midfield running an uncompromising defence were major factors in the Waratahs successful run to the 2008 Final.
Carter was born in Young on 25 February 1983 in the country NSW town of Young. A childhood friend of Waratahs teammate Will Caldwell, Carter moved to Sydney where he was educated at Knox Grammar School on Sydney’s north shore. He gained NSW Schools selection in 2001 and linked with the Sydney University club upon finishing year 12. After making his state debut on the Development Tour of Argentina in 2004, Carter toured Eastern Europe with the Waratahs in 2005.
