Warringah set up a big victory with four first half tries over Northern Suburbs in their Tooheys New Shute Shield Round 14 clash at North Sydney Oval.

Sydney University, Gordon and West Harbour were the other top six teams to pull off victories, however Eastwood and Randwick both lost to sides ranked below them on the ladder.

NORTHERN SUBURBS V WARRINGAH at North Sydney Oval
Warringah were never headed in running out 42-17 victors over Northern Suburbs at North Sydney Oval.

The Rats scored six tries to three, Clint Eadie recording a personal haul of 17 points as Warringah brought up their fourth victory from the last five rounds.

Huia Edmonds opened the scoring for Warringah in just the seventh minute, with Clint Eadie's conversion putting the rats up 7-0.

Chris Burnett had the chance to close the gap with a penalty a couple of minutes later, however the attempt hit the woodwork and bounced away.

In the 23rd minute Pat McCabe finished off a good backline passing movement with a try in the left corner which Eadie converted from the sideline to double the lead.

Just two minutes later Edmonds had a hand in the Rats' third try, executing a quick one-two passing exchange with scrumhalf Sam Hutcherson who touched down under the posts.

Corey Brown gave the Shoremen some hope in the 30th minute with a perfectly executed chip and chase down the right flank to score, however in the final minute of the half Eadie was on the end of a Brock McGarity cross-field kick to score Warringah's fourth try.

As the bell for half-time tolled, Eadie converted his own try inches in from touch to give Warringah a 28-5 half-time advantage.

Soon after the break No.8 Andrew Rasmus was on the end of a great pass in the tackle from Scott Fardy and ran 20 metres to score next to the post and extend the margin to 30 points.

When Sevens star Willie Bishop touched down ten minutes later and Eadie nailed his sixth conversion from as many attempts, the Rats led 42-5 with 25 minutes left to play.

To Norths' credit they never gave in, and in the 72nd minute Brown crossed for his second try after a period of territorial dominance.

The diminutive fullback was shown a yellow card minutes later after a deliberate infringement ensuring the Shoremen would finish with 14-men.

Warringah however were unable to breach the Norths' line, and it was in fact Anthony Shortis who scored the final try of the match on the bell to reduce the final margin to 42-17.

The Rats victory saw them leapfrog Eastwood to fifth on the table, while Norths remain in tenth, 16 points adrift of the top six.
