Despite scoring four tries to three, NSW Suburban has gone down to Queensland Suburban 31-28 at Campbelltown Showground.

Having won back the Barraclough Shield in 2007, NSW Suburban led going into the closing stages, however a converted try and penalty to the visitors saw the trophy slip from their grasp.

It was the fourth time in a row the Shield has been won by the away team, and just the second time since 1992 that Queensland Suburban have come out on top.

The visitors had the best of the opening half, and went into the break with a two tries to one 16-11 lead.

NSW 'Subbies' started the second half on the front foot, and taking advantage of a yellow card to Queensland lock Mitch O'Hara, they scored three tries to take a 28-21 lead going into the final minutes.

Queensland never gave up however, and a converted try tied the game at 28-all.

The visitors maintained possession and field position as the clock wound down, and eventually the penalty opportunity came.

Gary Blank coolly slotted his fourth penalty of the game, handing Queensland Suburban a 31-28 victory.
