The popularity of the Tooheys New Shute Shield continues to grow and has seen the ABC commit to telecasting the entire finals series live in 2010.
In addition to the Saturday fixtures, ABC will now telecast all Sunday semi-finals in first grade to ensure fans of the Shute Shield can enjoy live and free-to-air coverage of the most important matches in Australia’s premier club rugby competition.
The announcement coincides with the finalisation of venues for the Sydney Grade and Colts Finals Series which sees Grand Final Day return to Concord Oval on Saturday 2 October.
“The ABC has long been an important element of club Rugby in Sydney and it would be pretty hard to imagine the competition without them,” said Mark Green, NSWRU General Manager, Competitions. “There are always issues around the scheduling of four Grand Finals at one venue on one day and the best option this year is to return to Concord where we had a great event in 2008.”
The six-team grade finals series will move across Sydney with Elimination Semi-Finals staged at Coogee Oval and T.G. Millner Field on 18-19 September. Preliminary Finals will decide the 2010 Grand Finalists on 25-26 September at Woollahra Oval and University Oval No.1 (respectively) before Grand Final Day Saturday 2 October.
The Colts Finals Series will kick-off one week earlier with their Grand Finals to be staged at Concord on Saturday 25 September.
