The NSW Country Rugby Union Grand Final season continued with the Illawarra and Central North zones deciding their major winners over the weekend.

In the Central North Zone the Tamworth Pirates had the home ground advantage when taking on Walcha Rams.

The Pirates came out of the blocks strong with an early 26-6 lead. The Rams scored two converted tries to go into half time 26-20 down.

Both teams traded try for try in the second half and an attempted conversion from the sideline for the Walcha Rams gave them the chance to go in front.

The conversion missed and Tamworth were able to run out the clock which saw them crowned Central North Premiers, 40-39.

In the Illawarra zone, the undefeated Avondale Wombats squared off with the Wollongong Vikings at WIN Stadium.

Avondale completed the perfect season running out winners, 27-17.

NSW Country Executive Officer Stephen O’Brien was on hand to watch the Central North Zone Grand Final.

“The amazing work of the country communities to get everyone there and have a good time is a credit to these communities,” he said.

“Congratulations to both zones for hosting a terrific Grand Final day.”

This weekend Walgett host Warren in the Western Plains Zone Grand Final.

Then on the Far North, Lismore is set to host Yamba Buccaneers and Evans River for the Presidents Cup.
