The HSBC Waratahs and Fox Sports 2011 documentary The Code – Life with the Waratahs has been nominated for Best Sports Program at this year’s Astra Awards.

The Code faces stiff opposition from within rugby, with Fox Sports’ coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2011 also nominated, as well as other sports including the T20 Big Bash league.

The winner will be announced at tomorrow (Thursday) evening’s ceremony, which takes place at the Sydney Theatre.

The full list of finalists for the Most Outstanding Sports Program or Coverage category are:

Rugby World Cup 2011 - FOX SPORTS
Aussies Abroad: 2011 World Ironman Championship - ESPN
KFC T20 Big Bash League - FOX SPORTS
The Code - Life With The Waratahs - FOX SPORTS
Created and produced by Nick Piper of Onion Media Group and a first for Australian Rugby, the documentary The Code – Life with the Waratahs was launched in May 2011.  An eight-part series following Australia's oldest provincial rugby team, the documentary premiered on May 26 on Fox Sports and was watched by an astonishing 851,633 viewers across Australia.  Compelling viewing for its unique insight into the inner sanctum team environment, The Code went on to achieve international success and through Trace Sports HD, is currently available to over 30 million subscribers in 70 countries including the UK, France and South Africa.

You can watch a trailer for The Code on TahTV, the HSBC Waratahs’ YouTube channel.

The ASTRA Awards recognise the wealth of talent that drives the Australian subscription TV industry and highlights the creativity, commitment and investment in production and broadcasting. Entries are sought from subscription TV channels and platforms.  Full details on the Astra Awards finalists are available from their website at http://www.astra.org.au/Astra-Awards/Finalists.
