Places are still available for junior rugby players to sign up to receive coaching from NSW Waratah players at the Camp Waratah training days being held across the state over the school holidays.
The NSW Rugby Union has announced that Michael Wells, Jed Holloway and Sekope Kepu will be amongst the players attending the one day camps that run in regional NSW and in Sydney from April 18.
All level of skills will be catered for in the coaching sessions which are open to players from the Under 6 age group up to the Under 13’s.
The General Manager of Rugby Development at NSW Rugby Andrew Hill, says the camps are not only a wonderful opportunity for the junior players to get some great coaching, but it’s also good for the Waratah players who deliver the programs.
“It’s really important that the current Waratah players have an opportunity to connect with the junior players who play the game week in and week out and who are so passionate about the game,” he said.
“It takes the players right back to where they started and keeps them in touch with the juniors, who look up to them and want to be like them.”
The camps are also more than just learning about how to catch, pass and tackle.
“Where it’s really good for the young players is that they learn not only what it takes to be a Waratah but they learn about the values of the team as well. It means they can take those skills and the values back to their clubs and their teams, which makes them all better players,” Andrew Hill said.
As well as learning from the players each junior who signs up for Camp Waratah will receive a NSW Waratah Junior Membership and a membership pack along with two general admission tickets to the NSW Waratahs vs Jaguares game on July 8th.
“If the kids love their rugby or they just want to try something new, then the Camp’s could be just the thing,” Andrew Hill said.
Camp Waratah is a one day, non-residential camp, running from 9am until 3pm.
Camp Waratah sessions will be held at:
Victoria Park, No. 2 and 3 Ovals
Farrer Agricultural Memorial School
Maitland Blacks Rugby Club, Marcellin Oval
Woonona Shamrocks Rugby Club
Sir Joseph Banks Oval, Bateau Bay
