Third Round of womens seven's competition running on Monday holiday

The third round of the Women’s rugby seven’s competition will be run this Monday from 10:00am, at Manly Oval.

Eight teams will play in the women’s seven a side tournament with Shute Shield club sides Easts and Manly competing alongside three university teams, from UNSW, Sydney University and Macquarie University.

Three additional teams, Hornsby, Pride 7’s and Waverley will make up the competition which will be played in a round robin format before a final series decides the day’s tournament winner.

NSW Rugby Union Women’s Development Officer and competition organiser Caitlin Acquilina says that it’s an exciting day for many of the girls who are still learning the game but enjoying the competition.

“It’s great that we’re now running the third series of the seven’s and they are really enjoying the chance to compete and we can see the improvements in play,” said Caitlin.

There’s a growing interest in women playing rugby with a number of other Sydney clubs planning to start up a women’s team.

The first match on Sunday begins at 10:00am between Pride 7’s and Macquarie University with the final to be played at 3:55pm with all matches to be played at Manly Oval.
