The NSW Country Rugby Union Grand Final season continues to showcase country rugby at its finest with the Far North Coast and Western Plains Zones deciding their major winners over the weekend.
At Lismore in a high scoring affair, Wollongbar Alstonville won their match against Ballina, 39 -29.
NSW Waratahs Head Coach Daryl Gibson and Assistant Coach Chris Malone were on hand to present awards to victorious sides throughout the day.
In the Western Plains Zone, Walgett took the premiership out in a thriller against Warren with both country teams converging on Walgett Rugby club for the final.
A penalty kick from Warren in the dying stages of the match missed and Walgett managed to hold on for a 22-20 victory.
Before the final, NSW Rugby Union Regional Development Officer Angus McDonald held a junior development session for 40 children from Walgett and surrounding areas.
NSW Country Executive Officer Stephen O’Brien was on hand to watch the Western Plains Zone Grand Final.
“It was a great community event which brought both towns together during a year where rugby has been a welcome outlet for many of these teams and their clubs,” he said.
“Congratulations to all supporters for their behaviour and appreciation of a great rugby match.”
Across the zone, Western Plains have recorded no red cards during the 2017 season.
In the Central West Zone, both the Southern and Northern Division Premierships were decided.
Blayney were victorious over Temora, 47-8 in the Southern Division. While in the Central West Northern Division Narromine defeated Molong, 31-10.
This weekend Terrigal take on Ourimbah in the Central Coast Zone Grand Final and in the Central West Zone, Forbes take on Orange Emus for Grand Final honours.
